"Focusing on Building Fulfilling and Satisfying Relationships"
I practice emotionally-focused couple therapy which works on two levels:  uncovering the hurt and longing beneath negative relationship styles and then helping couples understand how these feelings are played out in their relationship.  The more one attacks, the more the other withdraws.  The more alarmed one becomes, the further the other is pushed into more entrenched withdrawal. In emotionally focused couple therapy, we will aim to break the old cycle and replace it with new ways of interacting which create bonding, safety, reconciliation and loving commitment in the relationship.

How Will We Work Together?

I am a New York State Licensed Psychologist with advanced training in marriage and couple therapy. I believe that people are in relationships because they want to be with someone they can count on, someone they can depend upon. Couples seek therapy when they are feeling a high level of conflict and relationship distress or when they feel increasingly isolated and disconnected from each other. Couples begin couple therapy with the hope that they can regain the missing safety, responsiveness and availability of their partner. In the process of couple therapy, the couple learns to begin to risk with each other and work together to deepen their understanding of destructive patterns which have eroded the relationship.  Associated feelings are explored and worked through to the point where the couple can express their needs and fears to their partners.  This will help them to feel more understood and supported by each other.
